Convicted sex offender Mark Brown, 30, who donned a silver wig and short dress to look like a woman to launch a sex attack attack on a teenage jogger, faces jail.

Brown, of Newington Green, Islington, north London, was already on the sex offenders register after being convicted of seven counts of sexual touching, when he spotted a girl in her late teens jogging past his home and quickly got dressed up in a silver wig he had purchased for a fancy dress party and a mini dress and leather jacket.

He then sprinted out after the jogger, caught up with her and sexually assaulted her before she had a chance to turn around to see who was molesting her.

She tried to push Brown away and shouted at him but was pushed to the floor and kicked out at him and screamed but had her eyes closed so couldn’t see it was a man.

When she opened her eyes he had fled and she only managed to capture a view of her attacker and notice the pervert had long silver hair.

Detectives contacted Islington Council to extensively review CCTV and found chilling footage of him sprinting from his home after the victim and then following a few feet behind her and launching the attack.

Footage was also discovered of him without the wig on.

Brown was arrested and charged on 5 October 2019. During his police interview, he was shown the CCTV footage and a still of him without the wig on – but he denied it was him and said he believed it was a woman.

When asked about the wig, Brown initially responded with ‘no comment,’ before telling police that he had bought it for a fancy dress party but he ‘threw it out ages ago.’

Brown was found guilty of sexual assault and is due to be sentenced on August 14 at Wood Green Crown Court.

The court heard that Brown had previously been convicted of seven counts of sexual touching and is on the Sex Offender’s Register. Brown had also breached his licence conditions of not being allowed out between 10pm and 8am.

Detective Constable Giash Uddin, the investigating officer from Central East’s Safeguarding team, said: “Brown is a dangerous, sexual predator and I am pleased that the jury agreed with the overwhelming evidence we gathered against him.

“Brown was lying in wait, in disguise, ready to pounce on his unsuspecting victim. He has refused to admit his guilt throughout and forced his victim to re-live her traumatic ordeal by going to trial.

“I’d like to praise the victim for her courage and cooperation throughout our investigation. I hope that Brown being brought to justice will give her a small measure of comfort and closure. I’d also like to thank Islington Council for their help with the extensive CCTV enquiries we carried out which identified Brown as the suspect and ultimately saw him get convicted for this heinous crime.”
