Enterprise News and Pictures 7/12/20 Pic shows: West Ham manager David Moyes criticises the linesman who 'didn't see' the ball had gone out of play before Paul Pogba fired Man Utd level on Saturday night. The goal was the start of an unlucky 13 minutes for West Ham who were blitzed, conceding three after the introduction of Bruno Fernandes and Marcus Rashford changed the balance of the game with a much-improved second-half display from Solskjaer's side.  West Ham were guilty of not putting their chances away and putting the game out of sight in the first half where they completely dominated. Moyes told whufc.com here that the linesman should have seen that the ball went out. "The linesman said that he turned away because he was looking for the offside. It’s not to turn away – you have to see the flight of the ball. In truth, with VAR now, he hardly needs to look at the offside because they’ve got that covered whether he’s got it wrong or right. “I believe a hundred per cent it was over my head and the ball was out,” he said. “I expected it was a throw-in. The goalkeeper slewed it out of the pitch and back in. And as you can see, three or four of the players stopped because we all knew it was out. "So I find it amazing that they've not given it. I just hope that they don't hide behind an excuse or something which is the reason behind it, you know. The ball was out of play." Moyes had one of the best views of the flight path of the ball in the London Stadium on that touchline which was confirmed by Match of Day later that evening who used 3D technology to show the ball was up to a metre out of play. Something VAR obviously doesn't possess or hadn't accounted for having to analyse. The manager said the mistake by the officials contributed to the team letting Man Utd get back into the game. “We let that disappointment last and it dwelt on us. The players can’t let it do so on the pitch. T

West Ham manager David Moyes has criticised the linesman who ‘didn’t see’ the ball had gone out of play before Paul Pogba fired Man Utd level on Saturday night.

The goal was the start of an unlucky 13 minutes for West Ham who were blitzed, conceding three after the introduction of Bruno Fernandes and Marcus Rashford changed the balance of the game with a much-improved second-half display from Solskjaer’s side.

West Ham were guilty of not putting their chances away and putting the game out of sight in the first half where they completely dominated.

Moyes told whufc.com that the linesman should have seen that the ball went out.

“The linesman said that he turned away because he was looking for the offside.

“So I find it amazing that they’ve not given it. I just hope that they don’t hide behind an excuse or something which is the reason behind it, you know. The ball was out of play.”

Moyes had one of the best views of the flight path of the ball in the London Stadium on that touchline. His view that it was out was confirmed by Match of Day later that evening who used 3D technology to show the ball was up to a metre out of play. The tech is obviously something VAR doesn’t possess and the situation something they hadn’t accounted for having to analyse.

Match of the Day used 3-D technology not available to VAR

The manager said the mistake by the officials contributed to the team letting Man Utd get back into the game.

Moyes talking to whufc.com

“We let that disappointment last and it dwelt on us. The players can’t let it do so on the pitch. They’ve got to move on quickly and not let it last too long. Unfortunately they did.

“We need to go again. We’ve been on a really good run and the players played well tonight. The important thing is to keep the performances good and hopefully the results will come with it.”

Moyes was disappointed to lose 3-1 at home but praised the West Ham fans who attended a home game for the first time in eight months following the ban due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

“It was great to have them back. I’m looking forward to having them all back but tonight was a start – 2,000 of them, and it was great.

“I’m disappointed we didn’t get them a result, but I think for long periods of the game they had played really well and hopefully they’ll see those positive signs,” said Moyes.
